As bloggers we’re so obsessed with Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and some other well known social media networks.
We get so engaged in those networks and how to use them that we don’t even have time to look around and see other possibilities.
That’s why I’ve decided to write this post. I’ve been using the site Quora for ages and absolutely love it!
It is great for your blog for a variety of reasons, and I’ll tell you how to use it to drive insane traffic to your blog!
Wait a minute. But what is Quora?
In case you haven’t yet found Quora, it is a Q&A platform where anyone can post a question and get answers from experts in the community.
Here’s an example:
In this example, someone asked “What are the keys to growing your blog audience?” and you can see a response, although this particular question was very popular and had over 100 replies!
Can you imagine the amount of people reading it interested in this topic? And the enormous potencial it has?
So let’s say you have a travel blog. You write about travelling in a budget. So you enter Quora and in the search feature at the top you write the keywords “travelling in a budget”. Let’s do that now.
There are literally hundreds of questions around this topic:
If you scroll down, you’ll see more and more questions.
So, all these questions are from people that will most probably be the right audience for your blog! And they’re all here! No need for hashtags or buy ads. They’re just here, waiting to receive great replies to their questions!
Filter Your Searches
So what you need to do is go through the questions and filter what is relevant to you or not.
For example, let’s say you just wrote an article about travelling to France. You might want to filter down your searches to “travelling in a budget to France”, so you have a niche inside your topic.
Write HIGHLY VALUABLE Replies
So you know how to find the right questions that relate to your blog. Now what?
Now is the time to write highly valuable replies to the questions that are relevant to you, especially the popular ones.
What I mean by highly valuable is basically writing answers that will help the person asking the question. But hey, you’re already a blogger so you know how to provide valuable content!
You’ll give them your expert advice, opinion, tips, etc. And… here comes the juicy part…. you’ll add a link to you blog!
Not to just any page on your blog, but to something that is directly related to the question itself. So in the example above, after you write a great response to a question about “travelling in a budget to France”, you’ll add a link to the article on your blog about the same subject, saying something like: click here to know more great tips, or something around these lines.
You can also add images to your replies, and not many people do that, so a big opportunity for you to stand out, especially if your niche is very visual.
The followers of each question are notified as soon there’s a new answer, and they receive a preview of that answer that basically are the first lines you’ve written. So, make sure those first few lines are VERY interesting or even intriguing and work as a teaser for people to click through to read it.
When you write a highly valuable reply, people will not only thank you for that but will also want to know more from you! And they’ll gladly click on your link and go to your blog to read more.
Now do this in a popular question with many replies and hundreds of followers and views and see the amount of traffic you’ll get from one single answer on Quora! It is insane really!
Needless to say that you should never ever add links to your blog without providing a valuable response first. That is not a reply, that is spam.
But This is Very Time Consuming!
An additional benefit of Quora is that answers posted on the platform can continue to drive traffic months after being written!
This means that whilst a post on Facebook or Instagram have a short period of exposure and attention and then it’s gone, a great reply from you on Quora will STAY on Quora driving traffic for a long time.
So, isn’t really worth it the time you spend in there!? I think so!
And I’ll tell you another trick so you get your time on Quora well spent.
You don’t have to respond to every single question about your searched topic. You want to write answers for the most popular ones! The ones that have many followers and views.
So, on each question you can see its stats on the right sidebar:
This is a good example of a popular question on Quora with many followers and views and where you definitely want to write an answer. 37,049 followers! :O
In popular questions like this you’ll want to write a longer answer with a lot of detail, you’ll be spending a bit more time in here, because the potential to drive traffic back to your blog is huge.
As said before, a lot of the people following the question will be notified as soon as your answer is posted. How amazing is that!?
Set up Google Alerts
One way to save you a bit of time however is instead of spending time searching for questions, set up Google Alerts to work for you.
The format for creating the alert would be somthing like this : ‘site: quora.com travelling on a budget to France’ where ‘travelling on a budget to France’ being the keyword of your last blog post, or whatever you want to make it.
Now, you’d be notified whenever someone posts a question about travelling on a budget to France on Quora. Cool!
Quora Can Establish You as an Authority
Eventually when you start to respond on Quora, the network will start to send you invitations to reply to questions related to your niche:
This is also a great way to get instant access to questions without having to search for them.
And did you know that when you have really popular or best answers on a consistent basis (“upvoted” by other users), Quora will feature you as an expert/top writer in your niche?
I’ve been lately responding to a lot of questions on Quora about Pinterest Marketing and helping users as much as I can, so Quora ranked me as a top writer in this particular topic:
This means that when someone asks a question related to your niche, Quora will suggest YOU to answer that question first hand!
And you don’t even need to post regularly to maintain your ranking, you only need to provide great answers. It’s all about quality versus quantity.
Remember to fill in your Quora profile bio in its entirety so when users see you, they quickly know who you are and can click on a link to your blog – yes, another place to add a link to your blog! 😀
Ideas for blog posts
Besides driving traffic to your blog and getting you enormous exposure quickly, Quora can also be a great place to give you ideas for new blog posts!
If you feel stuck with ideas for new content, doing a search on Quora can give a boost to your creativity.
